Prevalence of Significant Morbidities
per Weight

Mokdad A.H et al, JAMA 2002, 289:76
In addition to associated medical problems,
obese individuals are often subject to discrimination related
to work and social activities. They face physical, economic,
and social stresses and demonstrate a higher incidence of
depression and low-self esteem. These may be attributed to
just some of the concerns listed below:
• Clothing choices
• Furniture incapacity (seats in theaters, planes, and buses,
restaurant booths, etc.)
• Hiring for employment
• Promotions at work
• Admission to schools and universities
• Weight harassment and prejudice
• Development of friendships and other relationships
